Department archives

Engravings, documents, maps... The Seine-et-Marne Department Archives have a very rich collection on the history of Napoleon I in Seine-et-Marne.

In 2021, the Seine-et-Marne Department Archives are taking part in the commemorations of the bicentenary of the death of Napoleon I and are displaying a number of items from the First Empire era. There are many diverse sources of the Empire in the Department Archives, divided into various collections classified by theme (private archives, iconographic collections, legal texts and so on).

A number of them are about Napoleon and the major events in Seine-et-Marne, such as the campaign in north-east France and the Pope's captivity at the Château de Fontainebleau. Practical information: •Address: 248, avenue Charles Prieur, 77190 Dammarie-lès-Lys;

How to get there?

From Gare de Lyon (Paris) to Melun station

  • From Paris, from Gare de Lyon station, take the RER D or take the TER, line R,
  • Stop: Melun train station.

From Melun station to the Department Archives in Dammarie-lès-Lys

  • At Melun station, take line E in direction of "Dammarie / Chamlys",
  • Stop: Archives.

By car from Paris

  • Follow the A6a/E05 in direction of: Nantes - Bordeaux - Orly - Rungis - Evry - Lyon,
  • Take exit n°12 "Saint-Fargeau-Ponthierry" and follow the D607,
  • At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Avenue de Fontainebleau (D607),
  • At the entrance of Pringy, turn left onto Rue de Melun (D142) and exit Pringy,
  • Continue on the road to Vosves (D142), via Vosves,
  • After 3 km, turn left onto Avenue Francis de Pressenssé (D376),
  • Go into Dammarie-lès-Lys and continue on Avenue des Frères Marceau,
  • After 1.3 km turn left onto Avenue Charles Prieur (D372),
  • The Department Archives car park is 200 m on the left.

By car from Fontainebleau

  • Take Boulevard Winston Churchill (D210) for 1.3 km,
  • Continue on Route Nationale (D607) for 7 km,
  • Continue on the road to Paris in direction of: Chailly-en-Bière - Saint-Fargeau-Ponthierry - Barbizon, via Chailly-en-Bière,
  • Turn right onto Route Nationale (D372) for 2 km,
  • Turn left on Avenue Paul Vaillant-Couturier,
  • Go into Dammarie-lès-Lys and take Avenue Charles Prieur,
  • The Department Archives car park is 200 m on the left.
